Evanston, Ill. - The Nebraska swimming and diving team began competition at the Northwestern
Invitational on Friday, competing in six events at Northwestern University's
Norris Aquatics Center.
The Huskers started the
evening with a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of
Hayley Martin, Shannon Guy, Bria Deveaux, and Taryn Collura finished in a time
of 1:34.54, just 62 hundredths of a second behind Ohio State. Northwestern took
first place with a time of 1:32.91.
In the session's second
event, Bailey Pons took fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:57.65.
Morgan Flannigan and Melisa Mexia finished tenth and 15th in the event,
respectively.
Taryn Collura (23.34) and
Hayley Martin (23.68) then took second and fourth place, respectively, in the
50-yard freestyle. Collura's effort marked her third straight top-two finish in
the event.
The Huskers finished
competition in the pool with the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Hayley Martin,
Ashley Reiter, Shannon Guy, and Taryn Collura posted a time of 3:48.45, earning
fourth place.
In the diving well, Payton
Michaud took third place in the three-meter dive with a score of 282.10. Kailey
Harmon (273.45) and Amy Herman (268.75) placed sixth and seventh, respectively.
Ellan Dufour, Katie Davis,
Kelsey Larson, Kristin Strecker, Shannon Guy, and Bria Deveaux were the other
top-16 finishers for Nebraska.
The Huskers ended the day tied
with Iowa at 55-55 but trailing both Ohio State (66-41) and Northwestern
(63-47) in their respective duals.
