Lincoln - The Nebraska cross country team returns to the road this weekend for the Wisconsin adidas Invitational in Madison, Wis., on Friday.
The meet, which is regarded as one of the most elite cross country meets in the nation, will feature 49 teams on both the men’s and women’s sides.
Nebraska Coach David Harris said he is excited to see how the young Huskers react to facing some of the top runners in the country.
“This is going to be the toughest and most elite meet of the year by far.” Harris said, “Our goal for the meet is to get experience in a big-meet situation while facing the top teams in the nation.”
Harris also said that the meet would challenge the freshmen competing for the Huskers.
“It could be a bit overwhelming for some of the young runners on our teams, but I am excited to see how they compete.”
Junior co-captain Jarren Heng has battled through a mild calf injury this week during practice, but will likely compete on Friday.
“Jarren is kind of like our (Rex) Burkhead right now," Harris said. "He is a key member of the team facing a slight injury.”
Meet results will be available at Huskers.com following the competition.
