Topeka, Kan. - The Nebraska swimmers
got off to a phenomenal start in the Kansas Classic at the Capital Federal
Natatorium on Friday.
In Session One, the Huskers were led by Bailey Pons and Morgan
Flannigan in the 500-yard freestyle prelims. They finished second and 14th,
respectively, and Pons advanced to the A Finals on Friday night. Ariel Weech (Second),
Hayley Martin (Third), Shannon Guy (11th), and Bria Deveaux (14th) led the way
in the 50-yard freestyle prelims, with Weech and Martin advancing to the evening's
A Finals.
Session
Two saw even more success for the Huskers. It began with a first-place finish
in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a season-best time of 1:34.18. Bailey Pons
then won the 500-yard freestyle finals with a time of 4:53.75. Katt Sickle took
sixth, while Morgan Flannigan finished in 12th.
Ariel
Weech and Hayley Martin took second and third in the 50-yard freestyle finals
with times of 23.63 and 23.72, respectively. Shannon Guy took tenth and Bria
Deveaux took eleventh in the event.
Nebraska
finished the day with a third place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. Notre
Dame took first and Kansas took second.
The
squad will return to action on Saturday morning as they look to build off of
their tremendous start. Check back in for updates as the Huskers continue
competition in the Kansas Classic, beginning at 10 a.m.
Houston, Tex. - The
Nebraska divers continued competition in the Phill Hansel Invite at the CRWC
Natatorium on Friday. All four Huskers competed in the one-meter dive, with Amy
Herman finishing 12th after posting a finals score of 238.05.
Payton
Michaud just missed the finals, as her preliminary score of 248.20 was one
point short of Herman's 249.20. She finished in 13th place. Nicole
Schwery finished in 16th with a score of 242.65.
The
Huskers will finish competition on Saturday with the platform dive. It will be
the first time they have competed in the event this season. The Invite will
resume at 10 a.m., as the Huskers look to finish strong in Houston.
