Chicago - A pair of Nebraska basketball players were honored Monday, as the Big Ten announced the All-Big Ten Team Monday evening.
Senior Dylan Talley was an honorable-mention selection by both the Big Ten coaches and a media panel, becoming the first Husker to earn Big Ten honors in Nebraska's two seasons in the conference. The 6-foot-5 senior from Camden, N.J., leads the Huskers in scoring (14.2 ppg) and assists (2.5 apg) entering the Big Ten Tournament, while also averaging 4.9 rebounds per game. Talley is eighth in the Big Ten in scoring and ranks fourth among players in minutes played (35.4 mpg).
Talley has been even better in Big Ten action, putting up four of his seven 20-point games in conference games, highlighted by a 28-point effort against No. 8 Michigan State. He finished among the league leaders in scoring average (14.4, seventh), free throw percentage (.800, seventh) minutes per game (35.6, seventh) and 3-pointers per game (1.6, 15th). He closed the year by averaging 18.3 ppg in Nebraska's final six Big Ten games, including hitting a game-winning 3-pointer in the win over Iowa on Feb. 23.
Senior Brandon Ubel represented the Huskers, as the program's Sportsmanship Award recipient. Ubel enters the Big Ten Tournament averaging 11.2 points and a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game while starting 29 of the Huskers' 31 contests. He ranks seventh in the Big Ten in rebounding and sixth in free throw percentage (.806). Off the court, he is a two-time first-team academic selection and will graduate this May with a degree in broadcasting.
The Huskers, who are 14-17 on the season and the No. 10 seed, will depart Wednesday and will open Big Ten Tournament action Thursday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. against seventh-seeded Purdue. The game will be carried across Nebraska the Husker Sports Network and televised nationally on ESPN2 and on the WatchESPN App.
