Huskers Fire Season-Best 282 in Arizona

Goodyear, Ariz. – The Nebraska men’s golf team scorched Palm Valley Golf Club on Thursday with a season-best 6-under-par 282 in the first round of the Desert Shootout.

The Huskers are tied for fourth in the team race with Long Beach State after besting their previous season-low score of 284. Southern Utah sits atop the team leaderboard with a 279 total, while Idaho (280) and Cal State Fullerton (281) round out the top three.

Calvin Freeman paced NU on Thursday with 4-under-par 68 on the par-72, 7,015-yard layout. The score marks Freeman’s lowest of the season in 19 rounds.

Senior Matt Record and junior Josh Reinertson each produced subpar rounds as well for the Huskers. Record tied his best score of the 2013-14 campaign in 16 attempts with his first-round 70.

Reinertson, making his first stroke play start of the season, fired 1-under-par 71 for the best round of his career. Heading into the Desert Shootout, Reinertson had one stroke play start for a total of three rounds.

Mike Siwa shot 78, while Aaron Wong, playing as an individual, carded 79 at Palm Valley Golf Club.

The second round of the Desert Shootout starts on Friday at 10 a.m. CT, with a shotgun start. The tournament concludes on Saturday with the final round, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
