The Huskers head to sunny Los Angeles, Calif. to begin play Saturday at the Riviera ITA All-American Women's Tennis Championships, hosted by UCLA. The tournament begins Saturday and continues for nine days ending on Sunday, October 7.
The Huskers have three players, seniors Patricia Veresova, Stefanie Weinstein and Janine Weinreich, invited to participate in the event.
Weinstein and Weinreich were both selected for pre-qualifying singles and begin their tournament play on Saturday. Weinstein's first match starts at 11:30 a.m. against Oregon's Sofia Hager at the UCLA Tennis Center. Weinreich's match is held at 2:30 p.m. against UCLA's Courtney Dolenide, also at the UCLA Tennis Center.
Weinreich and Weinstein were also selected to play as a doubles team for the qualifying draw. Veresova was selected for qualifying singles. The qualifying draw will be played next week.
The tournament consists of three draws: pre-qualifying, qualifying and the main draw. Those selected to play in the pre-qualifying draw play their matches on Saturday and Sunday. The participants need to accumulate three victories to advance to the qualifying draw. Monday is a day of rest to allow recovery for those that advance to qualifying play.
Qualifying draw matches are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Players must also capture three wins in qualifying to proceed to the main draw. The main draw begins on Thursday and the matches run through Sunday, October 7.
There will be no consolation bracket for pre-qualifying play but consolation draws will be formed for both the qualifying and main draws. Consulation play will be held simultaneously with regular matches.
Result releases will be posted on Huskers.com following play each day. More information including recaps, draws and selections is available on the ITA website.
