Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska women's gymnastics team will host an intrasquad meet on Friday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. in preparation for the 2013 season. The event will take place at Mabel Lee Hall and is free and open to the public.
Nebraska will perform routines on every event in Olympic order, beginning with vault and proceeding to uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. Free team schedule cards will be available to fans in attendance, and the Huskers will sign autographs following the meet.
The Huskers welcome back seven letterwinners in 2013--including six All-Americans--from last season's Big Ten Championship squad. 2012 first-team All-Americans Jessie DeZiel, Janelle Giblin and Emily Wong will lead the way for NU alongside previous All-Americans Kassandra Nathe, Jamie Schleppenbach and Brittany Skinner. Returners Kailyn Hawkins, Amanda Lauer, Jennifer Lauer and Desiré Stephens will add talent and depth to the Huskers' roster this season.
The Big Red will also welcome four true freshmen to their squad this season, including 2011 Junior Olympic national all-around champion Hollie Blanske of Anoka, Minn. Blanske will be joined by versatile and talented Overland Park, Kan., native Jordyn Beck; a powerful vault and floor performer from Chicago, Ill., in Ariel Martin; and Lincoln native and three-time Junior Olympic national qualifier Madison McConkey.
Nebraska will open their 2013 schedule on Saturday, Jan. 12 in Ann Arbor, Mich., against the Michigan Wolverines. The Huskers will host regular-season home meets against Michigan State (Jan. 19), Illinois (Feb. 1), Penn State (Feb. 10) and Iowa (March 4). Nebraska will also take part in the annual Masters Classic on Feb. 22 in Lincoln alongside Boise State and Iowa State.
