Lincoln,
Neb.- The Nebraska
cross country team hosts their lone home meet of
the 2012 season this Saturday as they will hold the Woody
Greeno/Nebraska Invitational at Pioneers Park in
Lincoln. The women will run at 10 a.m., while the men hit the trail at 10:45
a.m. With over 57 teams and 700 athletes competing, Nebraska Head Cross
Country Coach Dave Harris is excited to see how the young Huskers
compete in their first large meet of the season.
“It is always
good to compete in a large meet early in the season,”
Harris said. “There should be great
competition with no big gaps between runners.”
Last
week the Huskers saw solid contributions from numerous newcomers as both the
men and women finished second in the team standings at the UNO/Creighton
Classic at Chili Greens in Omaha. After competing in their first meet of the
season, the young Huskers
look to gain valuable experience as they
continue through the bulk of their schedule.
“I think this
kind of meet is what we need right now this early in the season,” Harris said.
“We will see how they do competing against a larger number of competitors than
we saw last week in Omaha.”
The Husker women will look to win their
eighth straight team title at the Woody Greeno
Invitational, marking their second
longest winning streak in school history as the
team won nine straight from 1990-1998.
The
Husker men will look to
win their first team title at the Woody Greeno
Invitational since 2009.
