Huskers Compete in Home Meet
Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska men's and women's cross country team competed in its lone home meet of the season Saturday morning at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational at Pioneers Park in Lincoln.
The Husker women finished fifth overall in the competition, while Air Force won the meet. It ended the Huskers' bid to win their eighth straight team championship at the Woody Greeno. Leading the Husker women was sophomore Sarah Larson, who finished 14th overall, running a time of 22:26.1.
A native of Lincoln, Larson continued to post impressive times early in the season, after placing second at the first meet of the season, and now posting the fastest time on the team at the Woody Greeno.
Coach David Harris was very impressed with how Larson competed Saturday.
"I thought Sarah's performance was outstanding today, she set a new personal best and is really improving each meet she competes at."
Women's co-captain and the top runner from the UNO/Creighton Invitational, Sarah Plambeck did not compete Saturday morning due to a minor injury she suffered during practice this week.
On the men's side, the Huskers finished fifth overall behind Air Force as well. Leading the young Huskers was junior co-captain Jarren Heng. Heng finished seventh overall, running a personal-best time of 25:02.9.
"I felt that I gave a real good effort today," Heng said. "I have been putting in a lot of miles lately so I knew I wasn't going to be the freshest today, but posting a personal-best time is a great accomplishment."
Coach Harris also liked how Heng performed today, "Jarren has been practicing hard lately and it is really showing in how well he is competing."
NU will have this next week off, as they start preparing for their trip down to Lawrence, Kan., for the KU Rim Rock Farm Classic. Check Huskers.com for updates throughout the week.
