Grand Forks, N.D. - The Nebraska swimming and diving team defeated St. Cloud State (185-39) and the University of North Dakota (160-64) in their season-opening duals that began on Friday evening and finished Saturday afternoon at UND's Hyslop Pool.
Nebraska won eight of the ten individual events and both relays over the two days of competition. Senior Hayley Martin led the way in the pool with wins in the 100-yard backstroke (57.06) and 200-yard freestyle (1:51.99). Payton Michaud was the standout in the diving well, earning victories in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives (280.60, 293.60).
Taryn Collura (50-yard freestyle), Natalie Morris (100-yard butterfly), Ariel Weech (100-yard freestyle), and Kristin Strecker (100-yard breaststroke) also added wins for the Huskers.
Caitlin Quon, a freshman from the University of North Dakota, won the other two individual events, which were the 1,650-yard freestyle and 400-yard IM.
The Huskers will spend the next week preparing for their dual against Nebraska-Omaha starting on Oct. 19 in Omaha, Neb., and finishing on Oct. 20 at the Devaney Natatorium. The following week will see the squad head to Ames, Iowa, for duals against Iowa State and South Dakota on Oct. 26.
