Huskers On Cusp of Top 10 in French Lick

French Lick, Ind. – The Nebraska men’s golf team shot 315 in third round of the Big Ten Championships on a windy Saturday at the Pete Dye Golf Course at French Lick.

The Huskers are in 11th place with a 66-over-par 930 total after three rounds at the par-72, 7,152-yard layout. NU is five strokes behind 10th-place Wisconsin heading into Sunday’s final round. On Friday, Nebraska posted rounds of 309 and 306 in French Lick.

Senior Matt Record led the Huskers on Saturday with his third consecutive 76 at the Pete Dye Golf Course. Starting on Hole No. 10, Record made three bogeys on his first nine before birdieing the 18th for 38. He matched that score on his second nine with three bogeys and a birdie on the par-5 third. Record is tied for 16th with a 228 total after 54 holes.

Josh Reinertson, a junior, carded 8-over-par 80 in the third round. The Gibbon, Neb., native opened his day with a birdie on the par-4 10th hole, but suffered six bogeys and a triple bogey the rest of the way. Reinertson is tied for 24th at 230 heading into the final round.

Calvin Freeman is one stroke behind Reinertson in a tie for 29th at French Lick. The junior from Table Rock, Neb., birdied the par-4 15th hole in the third round en route to 6-over-par 78. Freeman added rounds of 77 and 76 in Friday’s first two rounds.

Junior Ross Dickson birdied his first hole of the day, No. 10, but never saw red figures again in the third round, posting 81 on Saturday. His 241 total after three rounds is good for 53rd place.

Senior Manuel Lavin is in 60th place with 249 strokes. He shot 87 on Saturday after posting back-to-back 81s on Friday.

Minnesota leads the team race by seven strokes over Illinois and Purdue. The Golden Gophers, led by individual leader Jose Mendez, have compiled 896 strokes over 54 holes. Mendez holds a three-shot advantage over Illinois’ Charlie Danielson heading into the final round.

The Huskers will be paired with Michigan for Sunday’s final round, starting on Hole No. 10 at 7 a.m. CT. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
