Filipcic Leads Huskers on Day Two in Iowa

Iowa City, Iowa - Freshman Anna Filipcic dove her way to victory in the three-meter dive, Shannon Guy and Bailey Pons earned a pair of sixth-place finishes, and Nebraska finished day two of the Hawkeye Invitational in third place. Through two days, the Huskers have accumulated a team score of 317, leading Iowa (311.5) and Denver (278), but traiing Notre Dame (552) and Boise State (469.5). 

In the evening session's first event, Nebraska placed fourth in the 200-yard medley relay with a season-best time of 1:41.10.  The team of Jacqueline Juffer, Taryn Collura, Bria Deveaux and Shannon Guy finished just one-hundredth of a second behind Denver's squad. 

The session's second event saw Julia Roller (4:23.69) and Samantha Hardewig (4:29.35) finish 10th and 18th in the 400-yard IM for the Huskers. Roller, Hardewig and Ashleigh Grammar (4:34.79) set career-best times in the event, while Michaela Cunningham (4:38.95) swam a season best.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Guy, Deveaux and Natalie Morris finished sixth, ninth and 10th for Nebraska. Guy (54.34) and Morris (55.27) swam season-best times in the finals, while Deveaux (55.02) swam a season best in the prelims. Erin Oeltjen (56.14) also swam a career best in the prelims, earning 16th.

The 200-yard freestyle saw three Huskers finish in the top 14. Bailey Pons (1:50.56), Morgan Flannigan (1:51.22) and Kelly Dunn (1:52.02) placed sixth, 10th and 14th, respectively. For Flannigan, her finals time marked a career best in the event.

The 100-yard breaststroke saw Nebraska's Guy (1:03.49), Katie Ditter (1:04.19), Kristin Strecker (1:03.88) and Hardewig (1:04.78) finish 13th, 16th, 17th and 21st, respectively. Guy and Strecker set season-best times in the finals, while Ditter (1:03.86) and Hardewig (1:04.09) set career bests in the prelims.

Juffer (56.16), Erin Oeltjen (56.73) and Land (56.72) finished 12th, 15th and 19th in the session's final individual event, the 100-yard backstroke. Juffer (55.56) and Oeltjen (56.29) swam career-best times in the prelims, while Land's finals time was a season best.

Anna Filipcic dove her way to a career-best 331.10 in the three-meter dive, earning Nebraska's first victory of the meet. Nicole Schwery, Payton Michaud and Kaitlan Walker finished ninth, 10th and 13th for the Huskers.

The Huskers concluded the day with a sixth-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Nebraska's squad of Pons, Dunn, Flannigan and Morris finished in a season-best time of 7:28.71.
