Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska cross country team will be competing at the NCAA
Midwest Regional held in Springfield, Mo., Friday afternoon. Head Coach David Harris hopes the young
Husker squad will hope to gain experience at a high quality meet with longer
distances covered.
“I am hoping we can gain a
lot of experience Friday.” Harris said, “With the longer distances covered at
the regional race (men run 10k, women run 6k) it will be a new experience for
the freshman on our team.”
The Huskers will travel one
runner short on the men’s and women’s team Friday, with six runners for each
team. NU will also be competing with four freshmen on the men’s side, and two
freshmen on the women’s side.
“We hope we can generate
personal-best times in the last meet of the season.” Harris said, “There will
be a lot of good teams competing out there, making this meet a big stepping
stone for success in our program for the future.”
Returning
to competition after missing the previous two meets is junior co-captain Jarren
Heng. Heng will be a vital competitor during the race Friday for the men’s
team, and Harris hopes Heng will lead the young Husker men’s team during the
race.
“Jarren has been through these types of races before, and we will need him to
lead our team during the race.”
