Lincoln,
Neb.- The Nebraska football team continued its week
of preparation for Saturday’s Big Ten Conference Championship showdown
against the Wisconsin Badgers on Wednesday. The team practiced
in jerseys and helmets for approximately 90 minutes, splitting time
between the Hawks Championship Center and outside on the Ed and Joyanne Gass
Practice Field.
Running backs coach Ron Brown believes that the Husker seniors are
ready to win NU’s first conference title since 1999. Brown hopes that the two
Big 12 Championship Games (2009, 2010) this senior class has played in will help guide NU
to the conference title.
“No doubt, those guys who played in those games have a cumulative
effect, that’s why you go through the things you go through and you learn from
that.” Brown said, “Obviously those lessons that the older guys have been
through will kick in well for Saturday night.”
Brown also noted that senior running back Rex Burkhead has had a
great week of practice.
“He has a lot of confidence,” Brown said, “He comes into the game,
and really he hasn’t had that kind of action in a while. Even in practice we
couldn’t simulate those carries he had against Iowa. He has a good week of
practice coming out of that thing, he looks great.”
