The 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships got underway on Thursday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. Over the course of the weekend five former Huskers will be competing at the event.
Eric Lund started the day with a time of 51.83 in the 400-meter hurdles preliminary. His time qualifies him for semifinals on Friday.
Chantae McMillan came away from the first day of heptathlon action with 3,342 points. She started the day with a time of 14.03 in the 100-meter hurdles and then followed that with a leap of 5-5 ¼ (1.66) in the high jump. In the shot put she notched a throw of 44-4 (13.51) and then posted a time of 25.96 in the 200 meters.
Ashley Miller finished with a time of 4:20.41 in the 1,500 meters. Redshirt freshman Jonah Heng finished 27th in the junior 5,000 meters with a time of 16:16.99, while future Husker Joe Harter came in 24th with a time of 15:54.18.
