Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska bowling team announced Monday the signing of Kelly Belzeski, a native of Schererville, Ind. Belzeski will bring a highly touted resume to the Husker bowling team in 2014-15.
Belzeski is regarded as one of the top high school bowling recruits in the country, and Nebraska Head Coach Bill Straub said Belzeski could help compete for the NU bowling team immediately.
“Kelly was sought after by some of the most successful schools in the country,” Straub said. “Along with her potential to help Husker bowling as a competitor, she is also a fine student.”
Straub and the rest of the NU coaching staff is very excited to have Belzeski joining the program starting in 2014-15.
“We very much are looking forward to Kelly joining us to begin a successful and enjoyable career as a special Husker student-athlete,” he said. “We are quite happy Kelly chose to become a Husker.”
Belzeski attends Lake Central High School in Schererville, and has bowled all four years with her high school team. She finished second in state individually for her 2013-2014 high school season. Belzeski was named to the 2014 Indiana All-State, All Region and All-Conference high school teams.
She also anchored her high school team to a second place finish at the 2013 state championship, while adding a third-place finish in 2014. She is the 2013-2014 NWIJTPA (Northwest Indiana Junior Tournament Players Association) female Bowler of the Year and the Indiana Post Tribune Female High School Player of the Year.
Belzeski carried a league average of 210 this year and also maintained a 191 average in the NWIJTPA tour. She is a three time qualifier for Junior Gold and attended the ITRC Combine last year.
Kelly was also a member Lake Central High School’s National Honor Society.
