Shields Helps Denmark to U-20 Nordic Title

Helsinki, Finland - Husker rising sophomore Shavon Shields helped the Denmark U-20 men’s basketball team to the championship of the 2013 Nordic Championship on Thursday.

Shields averaged 13.3 points per game in wins over Sweden, Finland and Estonia, capping the week with a 17-point, 12-rebound effort in a 101-94 double overtime win over Estonia on Thursday. Shields had nine points in the opener against Sweden and 14 points in Wednesday’s win over host Finland.

Shields is one of the Huskers’ top returnees for the 2013-14 season after averaging 8.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game as a freshman. Shields reached double figures seven times as a freshman, including a season-high 29 points at Penn State, while he also averaged 16.5 points per game in the 2013 Big Ten Tournament.
