Columbia, Mo. – Sophomore Kolton Lapa shot 2-over-par 146 over two rounds at the NCAA Columbia Regional Preview to lead the Nebraska men’s golf team on Monday at The Club at Old Hawthorne.
The Huskers opened with 292 in the morning at the par-72, 7,221-yard layout before managing 304 in the afternoon. Nebraska is in 10th place with 596 strokes over 36 holes. Tournament host Missouri leads second-place Austin Peay State by eight strokes with 18 holes to play.
In Monday’s first round Lapa eagled his first hole of the day, the par-5 10th, before adding three birdies on the back nine for a sizzling 34. He used seven pars on the front nine en route to an even-par 36 to give him a first-round 70. In the second round Lapa managed three birdies, five bogeys and one double-bogey for 76. He is tied for 22nd heading into the final round on Tuesday.
Aaron Wong turned in the second-best Husker score of the day with 5-over-par 149 and is tied for 33rd. The sophomore posted even-par 72 in the opening round, making three birdies in the process. Wong added 14 pars in the second round to go along with three bogeys and a double-bogey for 77.
Junior Ross Dickson birdied five holes in the first round en route to 2-over-par 74. He posted 76 in the afternoon for a first-day total of 150. Dickson is tied for 38th and one stroke ahead of redshirt freshman Nathan Wong.
Wong, making his first appearance for Nebraska, made eight birdies on the day to post 151. Wong sits in a tie for 42nd after carding 76 and 75 on Monday. The lone senior in the lineup, Matt Record, opened with 77 before a second-round 78 at The Club at Old Hawthorne. Record is tied for 54th at 155 strokes through two rounds.
