Lincoln - Nebraska Coach Bo Pelini and the Huskers met with members of the media Monday at Memorial Stadium to discuss Saturday's Big Ten Conference road test at Minnesota.
Kickoff between the Huskers (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten) and the Golden Gophers (5-2, 1-2 Big Ten) is set for 11 a.m. with live television coverage on ESPN.
Saturday's game is significant for both teams on a national scale, as both will be looking to make themselves bowl-eligible. The Huskers will be gunning for their ninth consecutive regular-season Big Ten Conference victory, while trying to extend their series win streak against Minnesota to 17 games.
The Golden Gophers, who own a 29-22-1 all-time edge in the series with Nebraska, will be trying to end the Huskers' recent series dominance. Minnesota will also try to continue to build momentum after knocking off Northwestern 20-17 in Evanston, Ill., on Saturday. A win for the Gophers would make them bowl-eligible for the second straight season under Coach Jerry Kill. Last year, Minnesota capped its season in the Texas Bowl.
The Huskers are hoping to head to TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis healthy after enjoying their second off week in the past four weekends. Senior quarterback Taylor Martinez has sat out the last three games with a turf toe injury and benefitted from the additional bye weeks from competition. He has not played since NU's third game of the season against UCLA on Sept. 21.
In Martinez's place, redshirt freshman Tommy Armstrong Jr. has led the Huskers to a 3-0 record as a starter, including Big Ten victories over Illinois and Purdue. Armstrong has received impressive support from senior quarterback Ron Kellogg III, who has been a major contributor in all three Husker wins.
Junior I-back Ameer Abdullah has carried much of the offensive load for Nebraska, ranking sixth nationally in rushing (136.0 ypg) and 11th in all-purpose yardage (158.8 ypg). He owns five 100-yard rushing games this season while racking up 816 rushing yards. He crossed the 2,000-yard career mark in NU's 44-7 win at Purdue on Oct. 12.
