Lincoln, Neb. - Nebraska men's gymnasts Grant Perdue and Eric Schryver have qualified for the 2013 Winter Cup Challenge. Schryver tied for 10th on pommel horse and finished 28th on parallel bars and 25th on high bar in the event finals at the 2012 Visa Championships. Perdue earned a 15.40 on floor exercise at the 2012 NCAA Individual Finals, allowing him to qualify to compete in the 96-person competition.

"I'm extermely excited to be competing in the Winter Cup this year," said Schryver. "I've been to Vegas before, so I think that helps avoid some of the distractions. It's definitely an honor to be competing here when I see some of the others on the list."

Teammate Wyatt Baier also qualified for the Winter Cup Challenge after finishing 31st overall at the Visa Championships. The NU senior earned the 23rd spot in the nation on vault with a two-day total of 30.400. He also competed on floor and parallel bars. Baier will be unable to compete this weekend, though, after breaking his leg while preparing for the Stanford Open in January.

The 2013 Winter Cup Challenge will be held in Las Vegas, Nev., on Feb. 7-9. Approximately 96 gymnasts will be split into two seperate sessions for the preliminary round on Thursday. All members of the U.S. Senior National Team were invited to compete, along with all the 2012 Visa Championship qualifiers.

The remaining athletes were invited based on their scores from select 2012 national championships. This included individual event scores from the 2012 NCAA Championships, allowing Perdue to qualify for the Winter Cup. The sophomore was named a 2012 first-team All-American on floor with his fourth-place finish in the individual finals.

Both Schryver and Perdue were sorted into the second qualifying session, which will start at 6:30 p.m. CST on Thursday. The two Huskers will start on floor exercise, rotating in Olympic order from there. The top 42 athletes from the qualifiers will then move on to the finals on Saturday, Feb. 9. The top three athletes on each event will also advance to the finals.

The 2013 Winter Cup will serve as a qualifier for the 2013 U.S. National Team, along with the 2013 U.S. National Championships, which will be held Aug. 15-18 in Hartford, Conn. Tickets for the National Championships are currently available. Live timing will be available for the Winter Cup at
