Huskers' Stay Ends At Central Region Event

Norman, Okla. - The Nebraska women's tennis team had their run come to a close at the USTA/ITA Central Region Tournament on Sunday at the Headington Family Tennis Center. One Husker lost a tough match in the main draw singles third round while several other Nebraska players got in some playing time with consolation exhibition matches.

NU's Maggy Lehmicke lost a three-set thriller to ITA pre-season No. 47-ranked Hermon Brhane 7-6, 3-6, 1-6 bringing her stay in the competition to a close.

In consolation play, Nebraska's Mary Hanna defeated Minnesota's Maja Vujic 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 while fellow Husker Lauren Wagner fell to Kansas State's Palma Juhasz 1-6, 0-6. The scarlet and cream's Lisa Andersson slipped against Minnesota's Aria Lambert 3-6, 6-4, 11-13 as Big Red teammate Hannah Sulz was ousted by Tulsa's Carol Benito 6-7 (2), 0-6.

Sunday saw the last bit of action the Huskers would get at the competition. Nebraska is finished with all their scheduled fall events and will pick their campaign back up on Tuesday, Jan. 21 against Creighton in Lincoln, Neb. at the Nebraska Tennis Center at 4 p.m.
