Nebraska football fans attending the Gator Bowl game against Georgia have until December 26th to make reservations for a unique pregame Husker Huddle in Jacksonville. The event is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. (ET) on Wednesday, January 1st. The pregame tailgate will be reminiscent of Nebraska-Washington games in Seattle because fans will be able to take a ferry to a landing spot close to the stadium after huddling up to meet, greet and unify their loyalties. In part to accommodate nearby alumni chapters in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, the Nebraska Athletic Department and Nebraska Alumni Association are co-sponsoring the New Year’s Day Husker Huddle at the River City Brewing Company, the premier restaurant located on the south bank of St. John’s River in downtown Jacksonville.

Regional Fans Eye Gator Bowl Tailgate

“We’re expecting a lot of Big Red fans to drive to the game from nearby states, just like they did when we played Clemson five years ago,” said Lindsey Freeman, a Huskers Athletic Fund coordinator who’s organizing the 2014 Husker Huddle. Freeman said all Nebraska fans and alumni are invited to attend the pregame event. Ticket prices are $35 per person (11 and older) and $18 per person for kids 10 and under. The price includes a buffet and round-trip water transportation (infants under 2 are free). All ticketed passengers will be dropped off and picked up just outside EverBank Field, the home of the Gator Bowl.

AD, Chancellor, Band, Spirit Squad, Mascot

Nebraska Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst and UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman will be special guests at the rally, which features the Cornhusker Marching Band, Nebraska’s Spirit Squad and mascot. Guests should expect a high level of spirit to celebrate Nebraska’s 50th all-time bowl appearance, a total that trails only two BCS schools – Alabama’s 61 bowl appearances and Texas’ 52 appearances. SEC teams Georgia and Tennessee are tied for fourth in the all-time NCAA bowl rankings with 49 appearances each.

Historic Bowl Deserves Special Features

“Since this is a historic bowl, we have something for everyone – music, face painting, photo opportunities, even dueling pianos, plus great prizes,” Freeman said, acknowledging that an official game ball from the Gator Bowl will be among the giveaways. A Bo Pelini autographed football also is included. All fans who purchase Huddle passes by the December 26th deadline will be registered for the game day drawings. Huddle passes will be available for pickup at the Will Call window outside River City Brewing Company. Fans also can pick up Huddle passes at the Nebraska Athletic Department on Thursday and Friday of this week between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. In addition, fans can buy tickets by phone from the Huskers Athletic Fund at 1-800-8-BIG RED or 402-472-2367.

Online Purchases End on December 26th

Fans can click here to buy Huddle passes online. Enter log-in information to create a new account. Once logged in, click on the “Special Events” link and choose the Gator Bowl Husker Huddle event. Freeman reminds new users that they must be assigned an AD# before the Special Event link can be activated. Nebraska Athletic offices will be closed for the holidays beginning Monday, December 23. Online purchases have the same December 26th deadline to be picked up on game day.
