Huskers Tour New Home

Lincoln - Nebraska men's basketball players got an early look at their new home court during a late-afternoon tour of Pinnacle Bank Arena on Wednesday, July 24.

For many of the Huskers, it was their first look inside the new arena in the historic Haymarket District of downtown Lincoln.

While the outside of the arena was receiving the final letters of the giant new logo that will greet driver's on I-180 entering downtown from the north, workers inside the arena were putting the finishing touches on the Huskers' expansive locker room and team lounge.

Players, including sophomore Shavon Shields and senior Ray Gallegos toured the building snapping photos of the arena and teammates inside the arena, while wearing hard hats, protective goggles, gloves and construction vests.

Nebraska Executive Associate Athletic Director Marc Boehm gathered the team together at the location of their new home bench to let them know the new arena will provide one of the loudest and most impressive home-court atmospheres in the country.

"Guys, every single seat in this entire arena has been sold," Boehm said. "Imagine looking up to the top of the arena and every seat has a Husker fan in it. It will be awesome. And down here, the fans are going to be right on top of the court."

Boehm and Assistant Athletic Director for HuskerVision Shot Kleen also informed the team about the massive video cube above center court and the ribbon boards inside the arena. They also touted the volume of the arena's sound system and the capabilities of the lighting system to provide an impressive entrance for every home game.

While the hardwood of Nebraska's new homecourt hasn't hit the floor of the arena yet, it was exciting for Shields, Gallegos and the rest of the Huskers to imagine their first time taking the court.

"Everybody is working hard and we're having a good summer," Shields said. "We can't wait to get in here and start playing."
