Montgomery, Ala. - In it's tighest match of the tournament, No. 38 Nebraska dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to No. 34 Columbia in the Huskers' final match of the Blue-Gray Classic on Sunday.
Nebraska slipped to 8-6 on the season and closed the tournament with a 1-2 mark, following a 4-1 win over Troy on Saturday and a 4-0 loss to Boise State on Friday.
The Huskers started strong against Columbia, claiming the doubles point with wins in two of the three doubles matches. Dusty Boyer and Bradford Zitsch defeated Winston Lin and Cyril Bucher, 8-6 at No. 2 doubles, before Brandon Videtich and Scott Elsass captured a 9-7 victory over Bert Vancura and Dragos Ignat at No. 3. NU's No. 1 doubles team of Andre Stenger and Marc Herrmann fell to the Lions' top squad of Ashok Narayana and Max Schnur, 8-2.
Boyer added a straight-set 6-1, 6-2 win over Columbia's Narayana, but only Tom Blackwell was able to claim another singles win for the Huskers. Blackwell defeated Eric Rubin 6-4, 6-2.
Lin defeated Stenger 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, while Herrmann dropped a 6-0, 7-5 decision to Ignat. Jack Sock suffered a 7-5, 6-3 setback at the hands of Schnur, while Sebastian Florczyk fell 6-4, 7-5 to Vancura.
