Tuscaloosa, Ala.- The Nebraska track and field team competed at the Crimson Tide Invitational on Saturday as the men’s team finished first with 149 points and the women finished second with 108.50 points. Nebraska also tallied seven individual event titles.
Chad Wright won his second discus title of the 2013 outdoor season, posting a season-best throw of 195-6 (59.58) to take the event. His mark ranks fifth in the NCAA this season and leads the Big Ten. Morgan Wilken won the women’s discus as she recorded a throw of 168-8 (51.42). Wright also won the men’s shot put, posting a season-best throw of 60-2 ½ (18.35) to rank second in the Big Ten. Annie Jackson recorded a third-place finish in the women’s shot put with a throw of 50-6 ¾ (15.41).
Seth Wiedel took home top honors in the men’s long jump. He notched a leap of 23-4 (7.11) to win the event. Teddy Lampkin finished fifth with a season-best jump of 22-10 (6.96).
Carlos Hernandez finished third in the men’s high jump, posting a season-best leap of 6-10 ¾ (2.10). Travis Englund tied for fourth with a mark of 6-8 ¾ (2.05). Jillanna Scanlan finished second in the women’s high jump as she notched a leap of 5-7 (1.70), while Marusa Cernjul posted a third-place finish with a mark of 5-7 (1.70).
Craig Driver finished first in the pole vault, tallying a mark of 16-8 ¾ (5.10), while Erik Sutterfield came in third with a mark of 16-4 ¾ (5.00). Maggie Maher posted a second-place finish in the women’s pole vault, recording a season-best vault of 12-8 ¼ (3.87).
Cole Ingram finished fifth in the men’s hammer throw, posting a mark of 183-2 (55.82). Veronica Grizzle finished fifth for the women, recording a mark of 178-7 (54.45).
Trevor Vidlak came in third in the men’s 1,500 meters as he recorded a personal-best time of 3:49.37. Jessica Furlan finished second on the women’s side as she posted a personal-best time of 4:21.14 for seventh all-time at Nebraska. Jarren Heng finished second in the men’s 3,000 meters, notching a time of 8:58.97.
Ricco Hall posted a second-place finish in the 400 meters, notching a time of 46.70. Levi Gipson followed him with a time of 47.28, while Cody Rush was fourth with a time of 47.31.
Mara Weekes tallied an event win in the 100 meters as she notched a time of 11.98. She also finished second in the women’s 200 meters, posting a time of 24.27. Kari Heck finished fifth in the event with a time of 25.27. Tim Thompson finished fourth in the men’s 100 meters, recording a time of 10.70, while John Welk was fifth with a time of 10.96.
Miles Ukaoma won the men’s 400 meter hurdles with a time of 50.80 to rank second in the Big Ten. Tibor Koroknai finished fourth with a time of 52.00. Mila Andric came in second on the women’s side as she posted a season-best time of 1:00.17.
Nebraska’s 4x100 meter relay squad of Tim Thompson, John Welk, Ricco Hall and Cody Rush finished second with a time of 40.80, while the men’s 4x400 meter relay team of Christian Sanderfer, Levi Gipson, London Hawk and Cody Rush posted a time of 3:09.59 for fourth. The women’s 4x400 team of Mara Weekes, Ellie Grooters, Mila Andric and Shawnice Williams finished second with a time of 3:39.39.
