NU Rifle Opens the Season with West Virginia
No. 9 Nebraska vs. No. 5 West Virginia
Date: Sunday, Oct. 13
Start Time: 8 a.m.
Location: NU Rifle Range, Lincoln, Neb.
The Nebraska rifle team opens the 2013-14 season defending NCAA Champion West Virginia on Sunday, Oct. 13. The match is set to start at 8 a.m.
Nebraska, ranked No. 9 in the first CRCA regular-season poll, finished 24-5 overall last year, including a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
Preseason No. 1 West Virginia enters the match ranked No. 5 in the first regular-season rankings. The Mountaineers opened the season with a win against OSU on Oct. 5. Last season, West Virginia captured the NCAA title.
Coach Stacy Underwood, a former two-time All American for the Huskers, enters her second season leading Nebraska. “The first match of the year is always exciting. I look for our team to be disciplined in their execution this weekend.” Underwood said. “Utilizing that match pressure to make their performance even more refined.”
The Huskers return seven shooters, including seniors Sunny Russell and ReAnn Wilson. Russell has more collegiate experience than any other Husker and could be contended for All-America honors in 2014.
“We’re excited to shoot against West Virginia. Our teams always have a great time together,” Russell said. “We are just going to stay focused on the things we can control and our game plan. We plan to go out on Sunday and have a great time competing and executing what we’ve been working on.”
