Nebraska hit the practice field for the first time in preparation for the 2013 season on Monday night, going through a two-hour workout in shorts and helmets inside the Hawks Center and on the Ed and Joyanne Gass practice facility.
The Monday evening workout was the first of 29 practices for Nebraska in advance of the Huskers’ season opener against Wyoming on Aug. 31. Nebraska will conduct single practices in the evening through Friday, before the first two-a-day practice session on Saturday. Overall, 16 of Nebraska’s August practices are scheduled to take place in the evening.
Coach Bo Pelini’s sixth Nebraska team includes 12 returning starters from last year, when NU finished 10-4 overall and captured the Big Ten Legends division crown. Pelini has guided each of his first five Nebraska teams to nine wins or more, and Nebraska is one of only four schools to win at least nine games each year since 2008.
In addition to going through their first practice on Monday, Nebraska also welcomed the Sirius XM Fall Camp Tour to Lincoln on Monday. Head Coach Bo Pelini, several of his players and members of his coaching staff talked Husker football with hosts Mark Packer and Houston Nutt, as the tour made the third of 20 stops in August. Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst and Athletic Director Emeritus Tom Osborne also stopped by for an interview.
Nebraska will be back on the practice field on Tuesday evening for their second workout of camp. Check back at Huskers.com for all of your preseason football practice coverage including the latest news, photos and video features.
