Moore, Griffin Make WNBA Rosters
Lincoln - WNBA first-round draft pick Lindsey Moore earned a spot on the Minnesota Lynx roster on Thursday, while 2010 WNBA first-round pick Kelsey Griffin will return for her fourth season in Connecticut.
Those two Huskers make Nebraska one of just 26 schools nationally with two or more players on 2013 WNBA rosters. Nebraska is tied for 11th among NCAA schools with two active WNBA players, and the Huskers just missed making it three, as former Husker Yvonne Turner was among the final cuts by the San Antonio Silver Stars on Thursday.
Turner, who earned a Training Camp contract with the Silver Stars this year, was waived Thursday evening by the team. A first-team All-Big 12 guard for the Huskers in 2010, Turner was a teammate of both Griffin and Moore on Nebraska's 2010 Big 12 championship team. Turner was the fourth member of the 2010 starting five to gain WNBA experience, also joining 2010 third-round pick Cory Montgomery. The No. 25 overall pick by the New York Liberty in 2010, Montgomery was a first-team All-Big Ten selection on NU's first NCAA Sweet 16 team.
Turner, Montgomery and Griffin have all played three professional seasons overseas, and Turner and Griffin have both signed for their fourth seasons abroad in 2013-14.
Moore will open her 2013 WNBA regular season by going head-to-head with Griffin at the Target Center in Minneapolis on June 1 at 7 p.m. Griffin opens her regular season with the Sun in Connecticut against New York on Saturday, May 25 at 6 p.m.
