Lincoln - Members of the 2013-14 Nebraska women's basketball team decked themselves out in hard hats, protective lenses and construction vests for their first tour of the new Pinnacle Bank Arena on July 25.
The Huskers, who will move into the new downtown arena in the historic Haymarket district for the 2013-14 campaign, toured their spacious locker room, team room, athletic medicine room and equipment room, after walking into the main arena for the first time.
Throughout the tour, members of the 2013-14 team posed for group photos. The 2013-14 Huskers on the tour were led by returning starters Jordan Hooper, Emily Cady, Hailie Sample and Rachel Theriot. Hooper, a two-time All-American and first-team All-Big Ten forward, recently returned from Russia after leading the USA Basketball Women's World University Games Team to a gold medal.
Juniors Brandi Jeffery and Katie Simon, sophomore Sadie Murren and all three of NU's incoming freshmen - Allie Havers, Hannah Tvrdy and Esther Ramacieri - all were wowed by the new arena.
The 2013-14 Huskers were joined on the tour by 2013 seniors Lindsey Moore and Meghin Williams. Moore, a first-round draft pick of the Minnesota Lynx, returned to Lincoln late Thursday after helping the Lynx to victory in their final game before the WNBA All-Star break. Williams is working as a student in the basketball office while completing her bachelor's degree.
Husker Sports Network radio play-by-play personality Matt Coatney also toured the facility with the team.
Nebraska opens regular-season play at the new arena on Friday, Nov. 8 against perennial Pac-12 power UCLA. Tip-off between the Huskers and Bruins is set for noon.
