Three Huskers Earn Academic All-District Honors

Lincoln – Three University of Nebraska student-athletes were honored Friday, as they were selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VII At-Large teams.  Gymnast Emily Wong was selected on the women’s at-large squad, while wrestler Josh Inhen and golfer Jordan Reinertson were chosen for the men’s team.

In all, 11 first-team selections on both the men’s and women’s sides were chosen from a nine-state district which also encompasses Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, New Mexico, Texas and Wyoming.  All three student-athletes will advance to the national ballot, looking to extend Nebraska’s NCAA-leading number of Academic All-Americans. Nebraska has 302 all-time CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, including three during the 2012-13 campaign.

Ihnen, a senior from Sheldon, Iowa, was a standout on and off the mat during his Husker career. A four-time NCAA qualifier, he earned All-America honors in 2012, and is one of only 21 wrestlers in school history to record at least 100 wins. This season, he posted a 27-8 record at 184 pounds, including two pins, six technical falls and five major decisions. He carried a 3.87 GPA in business and a four-time academic all-conference selection. He was also a finalist for UNL Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 2013.

Reinertson, a senior from Gibbon, Neb., has been a mainstay near the top of the Husker men’s golf lineup the past two seasons. This year, he played in 27 rounds and averaged a 75.96 for NU, including a season-best round of 70. Off the course, he carries a 3.93 GPA with a double major in finance and business and was Nebraska’s Big Ten Sportsmanship recipient in 2012 and was also a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2011-12. He graduated from UNL earlier this month.

Wong will enter her senior year as one of the nation’s top gymnasts. The Grand Forks, N.D., native is an eight-time All-American who placed third at the 2013 NCAA Championships in the all-around and on floor exercise. She has won seven events at the Big Ten Championships the past two years, including the all-around title in each of the past two years. In the classroom, she carries a 3.92 GPA in nutrition science and has earned first-team Academic All-Big Ten accolades in both 2012 and 2013.
