Huskers Impress on Pro Day

Several Nebraska players had the opportunity to make their mark to NFL teams on Thursday at the Huskers' Pro Day at the Hawks Championship Center.

Sixteen Huskers were on hand to impress scouts from more than a dozen NFL teams who sent representatives to Lincoln. The group of scouts watched 13 members of the 2012 senior class go through the workout including three players who attended the NFL Scouting Combine last month. Running back Rex Burkhead and safety Daimion Stafford, and kicker Brett Maher got a second opportunity to impress scouts after their workouts in Indianapolis.

In addition to the three Combine participants, the Huskers' 2012 senior class was represented from the offense by tight ends Ben Cotton and Kyler Reed and offensive guard Seung Hoon Choi. From the defense, seven members of last year's senior class took part in Pro Day including Joseph Carter, Will Compton, Eric Martin, Cameron Meredith, P.J. Smith, Daimion Stafford and Alonzo Whaley. Defensive tackle Baker Steinkuhler was also on hand at the Pro Day, but unable to particpate following knee surgery.

In addition to the 14 members of the 2012 senior class, 2011 seniors Mike Caputo and Curenski Gilleylen also worked out for the pro scouts.

The participants took part in the vertical, broad jump, 40-yard dash, shuttle, 3-cone drill and bench press, before moving to position-specific drills.

The National Football League Draft will be held in New York from April 25-27. The first round will take place on April 25, with rounds 2 and 3 on Friday, April 26 and the final four rounds on April 27.
