Nebraska Finishes Seventh at NCAA Championships

By NU Athletic Communications

Columbus, Ohio - The Nebraska rifle team finished seventh in the nation at the conclusion of the 2013 NCAA Championships, completing competition with a team score of 4,643. NU earned a team score of 2,346 in air rifle on Saturday afternoon to go along with their mark of 2,297 in smallbore on Friday.

"As a coach, I am tremendously proud of the team and their effort both today and throughout the year," Head Coach Stacy Underwood said.  "We had great team and individual performances. The most rewarding part for me to watch was the comradery between the girls. This was a great first step for our program, because we have proven that we belong here. This is the foundation that our program will build on."

The Huskers added another discipline finalist in Saturday's competition, as senior Katelyn Woltersdorf fired a 590 in team competition to lead the Huskers. Her score was tied with three other championship competitors, forcing a shoot-off to determine the participants in the air rifle final. Woltersdorf earned a 52 to advance out of the shoot-off and participate in the finals, where she captured a score of 103.5 to finish sixth nationally. Senior Janine Dutton added a 589 to aid the Huskers on the air rifle range.

The West Virginia Mountaineers posted a team score of 4,675 to earn the program's 15th national title. Kentucky earned national runner-up honors with a 4,670, while TCU rounded out the top three at the championship at 4,664.

The Nebraska rifle team will finish their 2012-13 campaign with an overall record of 29-15, including a 20-6 mark in the regular season. The Huskers captured three total All-GARC honors between Dutton and Woltersdorf, as well as GARC Coach of the Year honors for Head Coach Stacy Underwood.
