Be Ready, Anticipate Something Special in 14

By NU Athletic Communications

Randy York’s N-Sider

Remember when everyone said a picture is worth a thousand words? Well, that’s still true, but let’s begin this N-Sider with something that’s equally true. This video is not only worth a thousand words, but also a thousand memories, a thousand goose bumps that stand on top of each other and nearly 90,000 direct connects to the hearts of the most loyal fans in the history of college football – your Nebraska season ticket holders who have invested wisely in where the Huskers have been, where we are now and where we’re going in the future.

Be Ready is the theme for Nebraska football season ticket renewal. “It’s not a promise of a magical moment, but it’s a call to be ready for something special from our 2014 team,” said Michael Stephens, Nebraska’s Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing. “This team is already preparing hard, dreaming big and setting its sights on reaching their goal of winning the conference championship in 2014.”

The video communicates that the Huskers are willing to shed blood, sweat and tears for the chance to be great. They want to write their own success stories in this the 125th season of Nebraska football. They see 2014 as their time, their moment and their opportunity to deliver, even when their backs are against the wall. Watch the video and you’ll agree that you never know when lightning might strike.

Six Husker Voices Speak as One in New Video

The video features the voices of six Huskers who did their share of producing magical moments in 2013 – Ameer Abdullah, Tommy Armstrong Jr., Kenny Bell, Corey Cooper, Randy Gregory and Jordan Westerkamp. Their messages are mixed, merged and melded to speak as one. Together, they become the equivalent of a John Facenda-like “Voice of God” that made NFL Films’ classic footage so unforgettable.

I’ve watched this video six times and feel the same emotion every time I click the link. Why? Because every voice had a big hand in delivering big plays at big times in B1G stadiums in the Big Ten. We all remember The Hail Mary pass that Westerkamp caught to beat Northwestern inside Memorial Stadium. We also remember The Final Drive that culminated in Armstrong’s pitch to Abdulla to break Michigan’s 19-game winning streak inside the Big House.

For good measure, Armstrong threw the longest scoring pass in Nebraska football history, bowl history and major college football history during his last time on turf. Give that redshirt freshman quarterback an inch and he’ll take a mile. It makes you wonder what might be in store for Husker fans with Armstrong having three years of remaining eligibility.

Eichorst Congratulates Team; NU Rewards Fans

One month after Nebraska’s Gator Bowl win over Georgia in the Huskers’ 50th all-time bowl game, Nebraska Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst congratulates a great group of talented young men returning to the team this fall and acknowledges their dedication to compete for a championship in 2014.

Eichorst said Husker fan support in 2013 was again “second to none” and to reward such loyal support, Nebraska launched a 28-Day, 28-Prize marketing campaign today that allows each season ticket holder who renews before the promotional deadline of February 19th the chance to win a daily prize. Among them are unique, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, autographed items and gift certificates from local restaurants and sponsors.

Top prizes include a football helmet signed by Heisman Trophy winners Johnny Rodgers, Mike Rozier and Eric Crouch, plus a Tunnel Walk experience that allows lucky winners to run out behind the team at the April 12th Spring Game. There's also a sideline Tunnel Walk experience during the regular season. As always, the earlier fans renew their season tickets, the better chance they have to win a prize.

The Goal: Best Possible Game-Day Experience

“We’ve taken a big step forward to ensure that our game-day experience at Memorial Stadium will be better than ever,” Eichorst told season ticket holders while reminding them that a new sound system and a new WiFi network will be installed before the 2014 season begins. “Our staff is working diligently to make other improvements for football Saturdays as well,” Eichorst said. “These upgrades are all being done with one thing in mind – giving the best college football fans in America the best game-day experience possible.”
