By NU Athletic Communications

Tulsa, Okla. - The Nebraska men's tennis team had their main draw singles run come to an end Sunday at the USTA/ITA Central Region Tournament at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Huskers' Dusty Boyer lost a tough match in the quarterfinals, leaving only one match for the scarlet and cream to play on Monday.

NU's Boyer fell to ITA pre-season No. 44-ranked Oklahoma's Dane Webb 4-6, 3-6, ending his singles stay and knocking him out of the competition.

In the consolation singles bracket quarterfinals, Nebraska's Tom Blackwell scorched Bradley's Hamish Weerasinghe 6-0, 6-1 before toppling Drake's Euan McIntosh 7-6 (7), 6-2 in the semifinals.

"It was a tough day for Dusty Boyer as he lost 6-4,6-3," Nebraska Head Coach Kerry McDermott said. "He played a solid match but came up short today. I thought he did a good job of staying focused throughout the match and kept his head and fought hard! Dusty is learning that his best tennis is when he just keeps quiet, plays tennis, and let's his racquet do the talking.
Tom Blackwell continue to roll through the consolation and is playing consistent tennis. He will play in the consolation finals against Vasilieious Stavropoulos tommorrow morning at 9 a.m."

The consolation final takes place Monday morning with Blackwell and NU teammate Vasileios Stavropoulos going head-to-head in a Husker showdown final. The results from Monday's match will be posted here on at the end of the competition. Stay tuned and Go Big Red!
