The Next 50 Years of Sellouts Starts with You

While living in Kansas City and reading that Nebraska was expanding Memorial Stadium’s north end zone, I couldn’t wait to get on a wait list, and lo and behold, I ended up buying two season tickets in row 62 – good seats that my family and friends have enjoyed using. Nearly a decade ago, I thought Memorial Stadium would never expand again, but Nebraska’s innovative administrators found a way to develop the east side of the stadium. The expansion not only will accommodate athletic and academic collaborative research, but also 5,500 additional seats, plus another 668 seats in 38 new suites. When the suites were snapped up and club seats were selling briskly, Nebraska fans may have assumed that both club seats and regular seats were already gone.

That is not the case, however, and Nebraska Athletics has purchased radio and television advertising time to set the record straight, so Big Red fans everywhere know that the next 50 years of sellouts can start with you … Joe and Jane Husker Fan. You’re the ones who have kept the turnstiles at full throttle over the last half century, and now you can become an extension of the Nebraska brand with season tickets of your own – tickets that can be shared with your family and friends.

Goal: Inform All Fans of a Rare Opportunity

“Our goal is to be sure that all of our fans know about this opportunity to purchase Nebraska football season tickets,” said Michael Stephens, NU’s assistant athletic director for Marketing. “We don’t foresee any stadium expansion in the near future so right now is the best time to get in and be part of the next 50 years of sellouts.”

Here’s an N-Sider tip of the hat to Marketing for dramatizing a TV ad featuring two Heisman Trophy winners, Johnny Rodgers and Eric Crouch, joining forces with two current players, Taylor Martinez and Kenny Bell. Both Husker stars belong in the same sentence with both Husker legends. With one remaining year of eligibility, Martinez already has surpassed Crouch as Nebraska’s career total offensive leader (9,449 yards to 7,915). And if Bell duplicates his first two years of offensive production in his next two years, he will become Nebraska’s all-time leader in career pass reception yards. Right now, Johnny the Jet is No. 1 with 2,479 yards and Bell ranks No. 9 with 1,324 yards.

Isn’t that enough right there to jump on the Big Red bandwagon and do what almost all Husker season ticketholders do? Keep their precious tickets for forever or at least until Nebraska’s Centennial Sellout Celebration in 2062. Who knows? Maybe Oklahoma will come to town that day, just for old time sake.
