Lincoln, Neb. - Junior Natalie Morris notched two individual event victories on Thursday afternoon, leading the Scarlet to a 131-101 triumph in the annual Scarlet v. Cream Intrasquad Meet at the Devaney Natatorium. Overall, the Scarlet won eight of 12 events en route to a victory that evened the all-time series at five wins apiece.
The Cream took an early lead with victories in the meet's first two events, the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle. Megan Ziemann, Shannon Guy, Julia Roller and Alexandra Bilunas combined for the relay victory, while senior Bailey Pons claimed the 200 free title. Pons would later add a win in the 500-yard freestyle, defending both of her 2012-13 intrasquad victories.
The Cream's fourth and final victory came from senior Shannon Guy in the 100-yard breaststroke. However, the day belonged to the Scarlet, as they would win eight of the final 10 events on their way to victory.
Morris earned the Scarlet's first win, outpacing the competition in the 200-yard individual medley. She also added a win in the 100-yard butterfly to defend her 2012-13 title.
The 50-yard freestyle also went to the Scarlet, with Taryn Collura, Bria Deveaux and Jacqueline Juffer sweeping the top three spots. Deveaux and Juffer then added victories of their own in the 100 free and 100 back to continue the Scarlet's dominance.
In the diving well, freshman Anna Filipcic made the most of her Husker debut, winning the one-meter dive for the Scarlet. Senior Payton Michaud finished second for the Cream.
The Scarlet capped their victory with a win in the meet's final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Collura, Deveaux, Kelly Dunn and Morgan Flannigan finished just ahead of the Cream's squad of Pons, Guy, Bilunas and Melisa Mexia.
The Huskers will return to the pool on Oct. 5 for the annual Alumni Meet beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Devaney Natatorium. Check back on Huskers.com for updates as the squad continues its preparation for Oct. 12's regular-season and home opener against the Iowa State Cyclones.
