Nine Huskers Earn Academic All-Big Ten Honors
The Nebraska women's gymnastics team placed nine student-athletes on the Academic All-Big Ten list, the conference office announced Wednesday. The Huskers' nine honorees led all conference gymnastics squads and gave the women's gymnastics program 150 total academic all-conference selections.
Jessie DeZiel, Janelle Giblin, Kailyn Hawkins, Amanda Lauer, Jennifer Lauer, Kassandra Nathe, Jamie Schleppenbach, Desiré Stephens and Emily Wong were all named to the academic all-conference listing. In order to earn Academic All-Big Ten accolades, a student-athlete must be a letterwinner in at least their second year of competition and carry a cumulative 3.0 or higher GPA.
Giblin led the way for Nebraska with her third career academic all-conference honor; the senior has previously earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors in 2011 and an Academic All-Big Ten award last season.
Nathe, Schleppenbach and Wong all took home their second academic all-conference awards of their careers. Nathe also earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors in 2010 and is a three-time NACGC/W Scholastic All-American. Wong and Schleppenbach each picked up All-Big Ten accolades for the second consecutive season.
Sophomores DeZiel, Hawkins, Amanda Lauer, Jennifer Lauer and Stephens were all awarded academic all-conference honors in their first season of eligibility for the award. Hawkins, Amanda Lauer and Jennifer Lauer are all previous NACGC/W Scholastic All-America award winners.
Nebraska returns to the competition floor on Saturday, April 6 for NCAA Regional action. NU is slated to take part in the Morgantown Regional at 5 p.m. CT as they vie for a spot in the 12-team NCAA Championship field.
