Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska rifle team announced the signing of an additional recruit for the 2013-14 season on Monday afternoon. Washington native Lauren Phillips will join the Husker roster next fall and will look to become an immediate impact on Head Coach Stacy Underwood's lineup.

Hailing from Seabeck, Wash., Phillips brings a proven record of success in both disciplines to the Nebraska program. She has trained as a member of the West Seattle Totems Thunderbirds under the coaching of Joe Matter. Phillips was named the Washington Girl's Precision Junior Olympic Air Rifle Champion this month. She has also recently captured titles at the Washington Junior Precision Air Rifle Championships and the 2013 Open Three-Position Air Rifle Sectional.

In team competition, Phillips was a member of the Thunderbird squad that took the NRA national title in Indoor Conventional Position Smallbore in 2012.

Phillips is slated for plenty of additional competition prior to her arrival at Nebraska. She plans to compete at the NRA Smallbore and Air Rifle National Matches, the NRA National Metric Smallbore Championships and the USA Shooting National Championships in the coming months. She will join a Nebraska roster that already features a Washington native in Husker sophomore Denise Martin.
