By NU Athletic Communications

Former Husker wrestler Jordan Burroughs (74 kg/163 pounds) defeated David Taylor in the U.S. World Team Trials on Sunday, June 1 in Madison, Wis., to advance to the World Championships.

Burroughs took down Taylor in two matches at the Alliant Energy Center, winning by a 6-2 margin in the first match before notching a 6-5 victory in the second bout.

Burroughs looks to win his third consecutive crown at the World Championships after winning in 2011 and 2013. He added an Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, England. The 2014 World Championships are in September in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Burroughs, a Sicklerville, N.J. native, improves to 84-1 in his career after wrestling at Nebraska from 2006 to 2011. He captured two national titles with the Huskers and took home the 2011 Hodge Trophy.
