By NU Athletic Communications

Husker golfer Josh Reinertson shot 11-under-par 133 for two rounds at Willowbend Golf Club in Wichita, Kan., on Wednesday, July 16 to earn a spot in next month's U.S. Amateur.

Reinertson, a Gibbon, Neb. native, was the only player from that qualifying site to advance to the national tournament. He held off his brother Rylee by four strokes and finished seven shots ahead of second alternate Brendon Jelley.

Sectional qualifying started on July 7 and runs through July 22 at 97 courses around the country.

The U.S. Amateur is set for Aug. 11-17 at Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Ga. A field of 312 players will play 18 holes of stroke play on Aug. 11-12 on each of the two qualifying courses, after which the field will be cut to the low 64 scorers. Six rounds of match play begin on Aug. 13 and the championship concludes with a 36-hole championship match on Aug. 17.

Reinertson will be a senior for the Huskers in 2014-15. He is a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and three-time Academic All-Big Ten Team member. Last season, Reinertson compiled a 73.85 stroke average in 13 rounds and became a pivotal contributor for the team in the spring season.
