Taylor Edwards Named to WCWS All-Tournament Team

By NU Athletic Communications

Junior catcher Taylor Edwards was honored Tuesday night when she was one of 13 players named to the 2013 Women's College World Series all-tournament team. Edwards is the first Husker to earn that honor since Ali Viola in 1998 and is Nebraska's 11th all-time honoree.

Edwards was one of only three players selected to the team who wasn't from Tennessee or Oklahoma, the two teams who advanced to the championship series. The Sooners' Keilani Ricketts was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after leading OU to its second national championship. Nebraska was one of only four teams to defeat the Sooners this season.

A native of Murrieta, Calif., Edwards was 4-for-9 at the Women's College World Series with three runs scored, two RBIs and one home run. She hit a clutch game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the 10th inning against No. 2 Florida in a memorable game Nebraska went on to lose by one in 15 innings.

Taylor's postseason honor capped a memorable junior season for the Edwards twins. Taylor and Tatum Edwards were both unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selections, while Tatum was a second-team All-American. Taylor earned third-team All-America honors in 2011, as Nebraska and Arizona State are the only two teams who will feature an All-America catcher and pitcher in 2014.
