Freeman Fires Final-Round 68 to Lead Huskers
Iowa City, Iowa – The Nebraska men’s golf team fired even-par 288 in the final round of the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational on a rainy Sunday to earn its second consecutive sixth-place finish.
Calvin Freeman led the Huskers in the final round by matching his best score of the season with 4-under-par 68. He produced the low round of the day among the 65 participants in the field during a day full of rainfall.
The junior from Table Rock, Neb., started on Hole No. 15 and birdied his first four holes before adding additional ones on Nos. 2 and 6. Freeman’s only bogeys in the final round came on Nos. 10 and 12. Freeman finished tied for 26th at 224 strokes after carding rounds of 79 and 77 on Saturday.
The Huskers’ sixth-place result matches their lowest of the season with two other performances. NU finished sixth at both the Desert Shootout three weeks ago and the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational in October. The finish in Iowa marks Nebraska’s sixth top-10 finish in nine stroke play events.
NU entered Sunday’s action at Finkbine Golf Course, a par-72, 7,239-yard configuration, in 10th place after rounds of 305 and 302 on Saturday. The Huskers’ 288 total on Sunday was the third-best score among teams in the final round, as team champion Iowa (285) and runner-up Iowa State (284) were the only two teams to shoot under par over the final 18 holes. Nebraska finished with a 31-over-par 895 total over 54 holes in Iowa City.

He made three birdies on the front nine to go out in 1-under-par 35 before making eight pars and one bogey on the back nine en route to 37.
