Husker Sprinters Shine, Divers Continue at Mizzou

Topeka, Kan. - The Nebraska sprint freestyle corps finished first, second, third and fifth in the 50 free and won the 200 free relay to pace the Huskers at the Kansas Classic on Friday. Nebraska finished the opening day in third place with a team score of 221. Kansas (297) and Iowa State (240) are currently in first and second.

In the evening session's first event, Nebraska won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.55. For the team of Alexandra Bilunas, Taryn Collura, Bria Deveaux and Shannon Guy, the time marked a season best in the event.

The session's second event saw Bailey Pons and Morgan Flannigan finish sixth and seventh in the 500-yard freestyle for the Huskers. Both Pons (5:01.81) and Flannigan (5:04.25) swam season-best times in the morning's preliminary session.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Natalie Morris, Roller and Kelly Dunn finished 11th, 13th and 16th for Nebraska. Roller (2:09.97) and Dunn (2:10.18) swam career-best times in the prelims, joining seven other Huskers who swam career bests in the event on the day.

Nebraska's best team performance came in the 50-yard freestyle, which saw four Huskers finish in the top five. Collura, Bilunas, Deveaux and Guy placed first, second, third and fifth, respectively. Overall, 10 of Nebraska's 11 participants in the event set season-best times, including Bilunas (23.57), Deveaux (24.05) and Guy (24.01) in the preliminary session.

The Huskers concluded the day with a sixth-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. Nebraska's B squad, made up of Erin Oeltjen, Kristin Strecker, Deveaux and Bilunas, finished in a time of 3:57.32. The Husker A squad of Jacqueline Juffer, Guy, Morris and Collura was disqualified from the race.

Day two of the Kansas Classic will begin with a preliminary session at 10 a.m. followed by finals at 6 p.m. on Saturday. 

Columbia, Mo. - Anna Filipcic, Payton Michaud and Nicole Schwery earned top-eight finishes in the one-meter dive, leading the Nebraska divers at the Mizzou Invitational on Friday. 

Filipcic (264.35), Michaud (252.55) and Schwery (238.45) each advanced to the evening's finals, placing fifth, seventh and eighth, respectively. The result marked Filipcic's ninth top-five finish of the season.
