Erie, Colo. – Following an opening-round 309, the Nebraska men’s golf team climbed up to fourth place in the second round at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational on Monday before play was suspended because of darkness.

Two Huskers completed their second round late Monday as Kolton Lapa scorched Colorado National Golf Club with 2-under-par 70 and Ross Dickson fired 1-under-par 71.

Starting on Hole No. 5, Lapa birdied two of his first three holes before adding another on the 12th. He bogeyed Nos. 16 and 18 but closed his second round with birdie on the fourth. Lapa, a sophomore, is tied for 15th (149) at the end of the first day’s action.

Dickson started his second round on Hole No. 4 and bogeyed his first two holes. After birdieing the par-5 seventh, the junior from London, England, reeled off four birdies on the back nine en route to 2-under-par 34. He added three pars on the front nine to close with 37. Dickson is tied for 45th at 154 strokes over 36 holes.

Record, a senior, opened his second round with birdie on the seventh and sits in a tie for 40th heading into Tuesday.

Justin Jennings made his first collegiate start on Monday and paced his way to three birdies over 34 holes. The freshman is 3-over-par in his second round after opening with 82.
