Huskers Slip in Second Round

French Lick, Ind. - After firing one of the top opening rounds with a 302 at the Big Ten Championships on Friday, the Nebraska women's golf team settled for a 322 on Saturday to slip from second to 10th heading into Sunday's final round.

Michigan State and Ohio State enter Sunday's final round on the 6,017-yard, par-72 layout of the Pete Dye Course at the French Lick Resort tied atop the team standings at 598. The Huskers are 26 strokes back at 624. The Spartans (293) and Buckeyes (297) created some separation from themselves and the rest of the 12-team championship field on Saturday. Northwestern sits at 608 after 36 holes, while Illinois is in fourth at 612, just 12 strokes ahead of the Big Red.

Nebraska seniors Katelyn Wright and Steffi Neisen produced the top rounds of the day for the Huskers with 79s. Wright heads into the final round in a tie for 25th in the individual standings alongside teammate Cassidy Stelzmiller, who battled her way to an 83 on Saturday after putting up Friday's best round among all individuals with a 72. Wright and Stelzmiller both sit 11-over-par at 155 through 36 holes.

Neisen is tied for 37th at 158, while sophomore Morgan Smejkal is tied for 41st at 159 after settling for an 84 on Saturday. Sophomore Cassie Deeg sits in 62nd at 165, while freshman Jordan Chael is tied for 65th in the 72-player field at 168. Chael's 81 one Saturday's was NU's No. 3 score of the second round in the six-count-four format.

Ohio State's Jessica Porvasnik and Zoe-Beth Brake top the individual leaderboard after two rounds at 145. The Buckeye duo share a four-stroke lead over Michigan's Grace Choi and Michigan State's Allyssa Ferrell, who are tied at 149.

The three-round tournament concludes Sunday with 18 holes on the Dye Course beginning at 8 a.m. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
