NU Drops Conference Match to Minnesota

Minneapolis, Minn. - The Nebraska men's tennis team (9-7, 1-1 Big Ten) fell to the Minnesota Golden Gophers (8-7, 2-1 Big Ten) by score of 5-2 on Sunday. The Huskers gave away the doubles point early on and couldn't make up the deficit in singles with the match ending in a victory for Minnesota. 

In doubles, Minnesota grabbed the point at the No. 1 and 2 positions when No. 16-ranked Mathieu Froment and Jack Hamburg ousted NU's Brandon Videtich and Bradford Zitsch 8-7 (6) while fellow Gophers Leandro Toledo and Eric Frueh toppled Nebraska's Marc Herrmann and Beau Treyz 8-2, respectively.

UM led the match 1-0 going into singles where they grabbed four of the six matches to defeat the Huskers. Minnesota's Ruben Weber defeated Nebraska's Tom Blackwell 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 2 while fellow Gopher Hamburg rolled past NU's Herrmann 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot. Minnesota's Froment knocked off the Big Red's Andrew Dzulynsky 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 4 while teammate Juan Pablo Ramirez outlasted the Huskers' Zitsch 7-6 (2), 6-3. 

Nebraska earned their two points at the No. 1 and No. 6 courts where Dusty Boyer defeated No. 72-ranked Leandro Toledo 6-7 (2), 6-3, 1-0 (4) while Husker teammate Vasileios Stavropoulos outpaced UM's Frueh 7-6 (7), 6-4.

Next up for the Huskers is a road trip to Michigan to face Michigan State in East Lansing on Friday, March 28 at 3 p.m. before moving on to Ann Arbor to face Michigan on Sunday, March 30 at noon.
