Huskers Add Three Academic All-America Honors
Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska track and field team continued its academic success on Thursday as three Huskers earned spots on the Capital One Academic All-America Men’s and Women’s Track and Field/Cross Country Teams. Anne Martin was named to the women’s first team roster, while Levi Gipson was named a first-team men’s selection and Cody Rush earned a spot on the men’s second team.
The men’s team now has a total of 25 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, including 20 since 2002 when the track and field/cross country team was created. The women’s team has a total of 27. Nebraska’s nation-leading total of CoSIDA Academic All-Americans has grown to 314 selections across all sports.
A two-time NCAA Elite 89 Award winner at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Martin maintained a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. in elementary education. The native of Waverly, Nebraska, earned second team All-American honors with a 13th place showing in the heptathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Martin had seven top 10 finishes in the Big Ten and Big 12 multi-event competition, including a runner-up finish at the 2013 Big Ten heptathlon. She was twice recognized as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2012 and 2013. Martin was also a three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic and Academic all-Big Ten selection.
A sophomore from Lincoln, Nebraska, Gipson has been part of the Huskers’ school record-breaking indoor 4x400 meter relay teams and maintains a 3.92 G.P.A. majoring in nutrition, exercise and health science. He is a four-time All-American including a runner-up finish in the 4x400 meter relay at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships. Gipson was the Big Ten Indoor 600 meter champion and has ran on a pair of conference championship relay teams. He is also an Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Male Track Athlete of the Week selection.
A native of Grand Island, Neb., Rush is a five-time All-American and has been part of two Big Ten Champion 4x400 meter relay teams. He most recently finished sixth in the 4x400-meter relay and 13th in the 400 meters at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships. He has also been part of the Huskers’ school record-breaking indoor 4x400 meter relay teams and is a two-time All-Big Ten selection. Rush has maintained a 3.95 G.P.A. as a Nutrition Science major and is an Academic All-Big Ten selection.
