Zgierska, Zeppernick Finish Top 8 in Missouri

Kansas City, Mo. - The Nebraska women's tennis team finished the Mizzou Tennis Invite on Sunday, with two players claiming spots in the top eight of the event. Izabella Zgierska snagged the No. 7 spot and Maike Zeppernick trailed her at No. 8.

To begin the day, the Huskers faced Princeton on the doubles court. NU's Brittany Brewster and Lisa Andersson were bested by the Tigers' Katherine Flanigan and Alanna Wolff 3-8 while fellow Huskers Katerina Matysova and Maggy Lehmicke fell to PU's Emily Hahn and Dorothy Tang 2-8.

The scarlet and cream ended the day on the singles court against Missouri. Nebraska's Lehmicke sealed the Big Red's lone victory on the day over MU's Kelli Hine 6-7 (4), 6-1, 10-7. NU's Brewster was toppled by Mizzou's No. 72-ranked Cierra Gaytan-Leach 0-6, 3-6 while the Huskers' Matysova was ousted by Missouri's Rachel Stuhlmann 0-6, 3-6.

Mizzou's Alex Clark outpaced Nebraska's Andersson 6-3, 6-3 as fellow Husker Hannah Sulz slipped to MU's Elisha Gabb 2-6, 3-6. The Tigers' Cassidy Spearman swept NU's Lauren Wagner 6-0, 6-0 while Husker teammate Zgierska suffered an injury in the first set, forcing her to retire the match and give Mizzou's Madison Rhyner the default victory.

The next event scheduled for the Huskers is the ITA Central Region Championships in Norman, Okla. from Thursday, Oct. 17 through Monday, Oct. 21. Results and the recap for that event will be available here on Huskers.com.
