Huskers Head to NCAA Championships

The Nebraska rifle team finished as one of the top eight teams in the country after the regular season. As a result, the team will compete in the NCAA Championships on March 14-15 in Murray, Ky.

“This has been one of the most successful years in program history,” Coach Underwood said. “It is in no way a coincidence that this success comes alongside a highly dedicated team, willing to prepare to be ready to fearlessly compete against the best in the country.”

The team will compete against Alaska-Fairbanks, Jacksonville State, Kentucky, Memphis, TCU, West Virginia and the U.S. Military Academy.

The Huskers are coming off a bye week, but earlier the team had an outstanding performance at the Great American Rifle Conference Championships in Oxford, Miss.  Nebraska finished in third place as a team with a score of 4,665. In individual smallbore competition, freshmen Lauren Phillips and Rachel Martin won first and second place in the conference respectively.  In air rifle, Phillips came in seventh place.

“It has been one of the greatest times in my coaching career watching these ten athletes develop individually and as a team,” Underwood said.

Nebraska has had an impressive season so far producing many record-breaking scores and individual bests. The team hopes to continue this success and finish the season off strong at the NCAA Championships.

“I am proud of this team and their efforts not only on the range but personally as each [member] has taken the time to become a better teammate,” Underwood said. “With only one match left in our season it is now time to go out there and compete and demonstrate how hard we have worked.”
