NU Recruiting Class Ranked by Collegiate Baseball

Lincoln – Collegiate Baseball recently released its rankings for college baseball’s most recent recruiting classes, with the Nebraska baseball team coming in 26th in the nation.

Florida took the top spot in the rankings and was one of three teams from the state of Florida to finish in the top five, joining Florida State (3rd) and Miami (4th).

The Huskers' 13-member recruiting class that signed in November 2012 included a talented group of 12 prep players and one junior-college transfer. The Huskers also added a pair of junior-college transfers during the spring.

The class hailed from nine different states, mostly throughout the Midwest, including a group-high four players from Minnesota. Nebraska also signed a pair of standouts from Iowa, Kansas and Colorado, while adding one Husker each from Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana, California and South Dakota.

In November, the class contained nine players that were ranked in the top-1,000 by Perfect Game, including a six top-500 prospects and one top-20 player. 10 of the prep standouts were regarded as top-20 players in their state, including five who are tabbed as a top-five prospects.

Both Ryan Boldt and Derek Burkamper were each drafted during the 2013 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox, but both turned down professional baseball to instead wear the scarlet and cream at Hawks Field.

Collegiate Baseball’s rankings are based on players who enroll at school each fall. Athletes who initially signed letters of intent with a school but then signed a pro contract after being drafted do not count in the overall evaluation.

The Huskers are currently participating in fall practice, which ends with their annual Red-White Series. The three-game series is set for Oct. 15-17, with game times yet to be announced.
